Leader Feedback
Welcome & thank you for being here!
Take a moment to reflect back on your leaders and managers.
* Why were the good ones great?
* Why were the others bad?
Write a few thoughts below. My intent is to collect feedback and share it on LinkedIn. My hope is to create greater awareness and visibility for leaders/managers. Leaders and managers need help too. They can be your greatest coach and mentor. They can also be the source of the greatest frustration.
Here is a sneak peak at what my posts will look and feel like.
I have learned a few things from being a leader (and team member).
One of these is creating a safe environment for conversation. One where they are free and safe to share their thoughts, share their struggles, ask questions, etc. After all, what does TEAM stand for... Together Everyone Accomplishes More.
Another one is creating a safe environment where mistakes can be made. Honest mistakes with the right intent is learning. Repeated mistakes without learning... well, that is a different conversation.

These are 3 brilliant questions to ask before opening up your mouth.
1. Does it need to be said?
2. Does it need to be said by me?
3. Does it need to be said now?
I have discovered most of the conflict and challenges are a result of poor communication. This can show up in a variety of ways: a lack of communication, poor communication, not frequent communication, etc. The list can go on.
One additional thought... we have two ears and one mouth, perhaps each of us can do more listening to understand versus listening to reply.

Have you ever provided feedback to a team member only to discover a gap in onboarding or training? Perhaps this happens too often. When a gap or a problem is discovered... take the time the to understand the situation before addressing it.
* When there is a gap in the process (onboarding, mentoring, coaching, documentation, etc)... make the necessary corrections. Then ensure all are properly informed.
* When the gap isn't tied to the above bullet point... connect with the team member to address it appropriately.
Be hard on the process to ensure your team is set up for success.

This is a great acronym to support success.
* PLAN: Create a well thought out and written plan.
* DO: Bring the plan to live by taking the proper action steps.
* CHECK: Periodically check in to ensure the results are happening.
* ADJUST: If the results aren't what you expect... adjust how you are approaching the task or goal before adjusting your goal.
During the planning phase... be sure to include the right team members, business partners, customers, etc. This will help ensure it's providing the right result for all who may be directly or indirectly impacted.
Thank you for your time and feedback!
